Duties:

  • Draft and negotiate construction and design contracts, ensuring adherence to legal standards and client objectives.
  • Litigate construction-related claims, including defects, delays, cost overruns, bid protests, subcontractor disputes, and product liability.
  • Provide legal counsel on bonds, sureties, mechanic’s liens, agreements with financial institutions, stop notices, public contract law, and prompt payment law.
  • Advise clients throughout construction projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and mitigating legal risks.
  • Defend matters before the Construction Board, representing clients effectively and advocating for their interests.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience practicing construction law.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting, negotiating, and litigating construction contracts and claims.
  • Proficiency in handling various construction-related legal matters, including regulatory compliance and dispute resolution.
  • Familiarity with AIA forms and LEED certification is preferred.
  • Experience defending matters before the Construction Board is advantageous.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar or eligibility for admission through reciprocity.
