Associate Attorney Civil Defense Litigation

A law firm seeks a California‐licensed Associate Attorney with a minimum of three years’ practice to support its civil defense clients. Located in Pasadena, California, this role operates fully remotely, offering the chance to collaborate with seasoned litigators while managing cases from intake through trial.

Duties

• Perform in‐depth legal research and handle motions practice to shape case strategy

• Oversee files from initial intake through resolution, ensuring all procedural steps are met

• Prepare for, take, and defend depositions to gather and protect critical testimony

• Appear in court (virtually or in person) for hearings, status conferences, and other proceedings

• Maintain regular communication with clients to address questions, provide updates, and set expectations

• Assist senior attorneys with trial preparation: draft trial exhibits, organize evidence, and coordinate witnesses

• Collaborate with colleagues on case strategy, sharing insights and document drafts through virtual platforms

Requirements

• Active California Bar membership with at least three years of post‐bar admission experience

• Demonstrated background in civil defense litigation, including working on depositions and court appearances

• Proven ability to manage multiple files independently while keeping supervising attorneys informed

• Strong written advocacy skills for drafting concise motions, briefs, and correspondence

• Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients, witnesses, and team members

• Self‐motivated professional capable of thriving in a remote work environment without direct on‐site supervision

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA‐accredited law school

Certifications

• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar

• Advanced legal research proficiency using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or comparable tools

• Clear, persuasive writing style tailored to pleadings, discovery requests, and client communications

• Effective oral advocacy and courtroom demeanor for hearings and trials

• Strong organizational and time‐management abilities to juggle multiple deadlines

• Comfortable collaborating via video conferencing and document‐sharing platforms
