Job Overview: The Environmental Attorney will advise clients on environmental legal matters, including compliance, permitting, and transactional issues. They will also handle litigation support and business development activities.

Duties:

  • Create legal documents, including memoranda, briefs, motions, contracts, and regulatory agreements
  • Conduct legal research on environmental, land use, and administrative law at federal, state, and local levels
  • Advise clients on permitting, compliance, enforcement actions, and remedial requirements
  • Manage client relationships and participate in business development activities
  • Represent clients in administrative or court hearings, including drafting and responding to discovery requests
  • Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality
  • Stay updated on legal developments and industry trends

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of experience in federal and state environmental and land use law
  • Admitted to the State Bar of Michigan or eligible for admission by anticipated start date
  • Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, TSCA, FIFRA, and state equivalents
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing
  • Experience with solid and hazardous waste facilities is a plus
  • Portable book of business preferred

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • State Bar admission in Michigan or eligibility for admission
