Job Overview:
A top-tier law firm is seeking a 2nd to 4th year associate to join its Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice. The role will focus on supporting clients in high-stakes cybersecurity incidents, regulatory compliance, and strategic transactions involving data protection. Ideal for junior to mid-level attorneys, this position offers the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibilities and contribute to a growing practice that supports innovative and industry-leading companies navigating an evolving cybersecurity landscape. Location:

  • Austin, TX

Duties:

  • Advise clients on cybersecurity incident response and investigation matters

  • Provide counseling on compliance with federal, state, and international privacy laws

  • Represent clients in regulatory investigations following data breaches and security incidents

  • Collaborate on strategic corporate transactions involving data privacy and cybersecurity risk

  • Support technology transactions, mergers and acquisitions with privacy/cyber due diligence

  • Counsel cybersecurity companies on legal compliance related to research and threat intelligence

  • Draft guidance documents, client advisories, and risk management strategies

  • Monitor emerging cybersecurity regulations and provide proactive compliance advice

Requirements:

  • 2 to 4 years of legal experience in privacy, cybersecurity, or technology-related transactions

  • Experience with incident response, cybersecurity investigations, or regulatory counseling preferred

  • Previous experience at a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department strongly valued

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Strong academic credentials required

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction

  • Additional certifications (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E) are beneficial but not required

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple, complex matters simultaneously

  • Team-oriented with initiative to take on leadership within the group
