Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with 3–5 years of experience to join its Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice group. This role involves advising companies on data protection, privacy compliance, and cybersecurity matters in the context of corporate and technology transactions, including M&A, IPOs, and strategic commercial deals. The successful candidate will work with a broad client base across innovative industries such as fintech, AI, cloud computing, and software. Recruitment is being conducted on behalf of the firm.

Location:

  • Austin, TX

Duties:

  • Advise clients on domestic and international privacy and cybersecurity laws and best practices

  • Support M&A, capital markets, and commercial transactions from a data/privacy perspective

  • Draft and negotiate data protection agreements, privacy policies, and compliance documentation

  • Conduct regulatory due diligence related to privacy and cybersecurity

  • Provide guidance on evolving privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, CPRA)

  • Counsel technology and fintech companies on compliance and risk mitigation strategies

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in M&A, capital markets, or technology transactions

  • Demonstrated knowledge or interest in data privacy and cybersecurity frameworks

  • Experience working with clients in the tech or digital industries preferred

  • Familiarity with U.S. and international regulatory regimes a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Strong academic credentials required

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in the relevant jurisdiction

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) designation is a plus

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research, drafting, and negotiation skills

  • Strong interpersonal and client communication abilities

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple, fast-paced matters

  • Collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to solving legal problems
