A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Supervising Immigration Court Attorney to play a crucial role in establishing and leading a growing court program. The successful candidate will be a key stakeholder in developing a high-volume, nationwide court practice, responsible for managing a team of attorneys and legal support staff. The primary focus will be on serving a nationwide client base, predominantly consisting of Spanish-speaking undocumented immigrants.

Duties:

  • Help establish and lead a nationwide court program to better serve primarily Spanish-speaking undocumented immigrants.
  • Work with operationally focused attorneys and staff to create procedures, processes, and best practices for the immigration court team.
  • Manage and supervise the immigration court team, including attorneys and paralegals.
  • Set goals and manage team workloads to ensure efficient and effective case handling.
  • Oversee the development of templates for legal briefs and drafts to serve as foundations for immigration court filings.
  • Train and supervise the team to ensure adherence to procedures and best practices.
  • Collect and report team data, progress, and needs to legal team leadership.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings and draft/edit legal documents.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contract attorneys to provide coverage nationwide.
  • Stay informed about legislative, regulatory, administrative, and case law changes relevant to immigration court proceedings.
  • Some travel may be required to various offices for team training and supervision.

Requirements:

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school.
  • An active member in good standing of a State Bar.
  • 5+ years of experience in immigration court and removal proceedings with filing experience with EOIR.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing others.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English.
  • Experience managing and motivating a team of attorneys and legal support staff in a positive and collaborative team environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with a State Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of immigration law and court procedures.
