A law firm in Seattle is seeking a Patent Development and Strategy Attorney to join its team. The successful candidate must effectively communicate with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties both verbally and in writing. They should produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence efficiently and responsively. The role requires providing timely, accurate, and quality work product, meeting deadlines, and fostering positive work relationships. The attorney must comply with all firm policies and practices, engage in various activities including digital/virtual conference calls and meetings, and perform other assigned duties. They should be familiar with patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence. Strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools and prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm are preferred. The candidate must hold a J.D. degree, have a chemical engineering or chemistry degree, be licensed to practice law in the state, and be admitted to the USPTO.

 

Duties:

  • Effectively communicate with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties

  • Meet deadlines and perform work duties as required
  • Foster positive work relationships
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices
  • Engage in physical and sedentary activities such as working at a computer and participating in digital/virtual conference calls and meetings
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed
  • Handle patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Strong academic background from a nationally recognized school
  • Experience in a large or mid-sized law firm is preferred
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • License to practice law in the state
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

 

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry

 

Certifications:

Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

 

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and related activities
