Job Title: Employment and Executive Compensation - Partner

Job Overview:
A Chicago-based law firm is actively seeking a seasoned attorney to join its Employment and Executive Compensation practice as a Partner. This opportunity is tailored for a legal professional with deep-rooted experience advising corporate clients on a broad range of labor and employment matters. The role combines strategic counseling, document negotiation, regulatory compliance, and involvement in high-level employment decisions. This position is ideal for a self-directed leader who brings strong client relationship skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to contribute to the continued growth of a collaborative legal team.

Duties:

  • Advise business clients on compliance with federal, state, and municipal employment laws and regulations

  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements, policies, and separation arrangements

  • Guide employers on workforce structuring, personnel decisions, and dispute resolution strategy

  • Provide strategic advice on executive compensation plans and agreements

  • Support employment-related aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions

  • Optionally represent senior executives in negotiating employment and exit agreements

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal legal groups and external clients to deliver risk-balanced solutions

  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to team development and client growth initiatives

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience practicing employment law

  • Strong track record counseling employers in both advisory and transactional contexts

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters independently

  • Preferred background in executive compensation, labor relations, or employment litigation strategy

  • Established portable book of business (preferred threshold: $500,000)

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an ability to attract and retain clients

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Illinois (or eligibility for admission)

Skills:

  • Sophisticated understanding of employment law frameworks and risk management

  • Exceptional drafting and negotiation proficiency in employment documentation

  • Business-minded approach with strong communication and interpersonal acumen

  • Proven leadership in client service and legal team collaboration

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment
