Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property Department’s Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in patent counseling, including preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications, specifically in biotechnology. 

Location:

  • Washington DC

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in biotechnology and related fields.

  • Prepare and provide patent opinions in biotechnology or similar technologies.

  • Conduct legal research and offer strategic guidance on patent-related matters.

  • Work collaboratively with teams to create and implement intellectual property strategies.

  • Communicate technical and legal matters effectively to clients.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution.

  • Strong legal writing and research skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.

  • Experience in biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields.

  • Experience in preparing patent opinions is a plus.

  • Must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

  • PhD in biological sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics), Chemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.

Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in biotechnology and related areas.

  • Excellent legal writing, research, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
