A law firm in Tysons Corner, VA, is seeking an Associate Attorney to independently manage a caseload of collection cases, work closely with the legal team, and ensure compliance with legal standards and client requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in general collections bankruptcy and possess strong research and communication skills.

Duties:

  • Independently manage a caseload of 250-400 active collection cases from initial intake to closing of files.
  • Collaborate with paralegals, administrative assistants, and Shareholders to handle collection caseload efficiently.
  • Review and interpret client documents and draft legal opinions for Shareholder review.
  • Regularly handle court appearances in multiple jurisdictions and manage abatement court cases for covenant enforcement.
  • Maintain consistent communication with community association clients and their management agents, providing routine status reports.
  • Manage billing of hourly time and fixed fee collections work using task codes.
  • Attend on-site meetings at client community associations to oversee elections and Board meetings.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of bankruptcy and general collections experience.
  • Must be licensed in Virginia.
  • Maryland licensure is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in general collections work for banks or creditors, exceptional research and communication skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously, and excellent academic credentials.
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Experience with collections, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act compliance, district court, and post-judgment enforcement.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Legal project management experience is helpful.
  • Prior experience in managing paralegals and other staff.
