A law firm in Detroit is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will primarily engage in regulatory counseling and drafting pertaining to federal and state consumer lending laws. This includes expertise in various regulatory frameworks such as the Truth in Lending Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act. The role necessitates significant experience in consumer finance, including advising both bank and non-bank financial institutions, drafting contracts, and interpreting licensing requirements.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services primarily related to federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with regulations including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory updates and provide guidance to clients accordingly.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Solid background in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Proficiency in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Preferred experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.
