Job Overview: A law firm in Oakland, CA, is seeking a dedicated Patent Agent with a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or physics to join their team. Duties:

  • Conducting patent searches and analyzing prior art
  • Drafting patent applications and responses to office actions
  • Advising clients on patentability, infringement, and validity issues
  • Prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO
  • Conducting patent portfolio assessments and due diligence investigations
  • Providing legal opinions and counseling on intellectual property matters
  • Collaborating with inventors, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand technology and innovation

Requirements:

  • Eligible to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Background in computer science or electrical engineering, or a graduate degree in physics
  • At least 2 years of patent attorney or agent experience
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Commitment to patent prosecution

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to a state bar (California preferred)
  • Registration as a patent attorney with the USPTO
