Job Overview:
A well-regarded intellectual property law firm is seeking a talented Patent Prosecution Associate to join its growing patent practice. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical, computer, or software-related technologies and will contribute to a team handling patent preparation, prosecution, and broader IP matters. Location:

  • Washington, DC

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in electrical and computer technologies

  • Engage in strategic counseling for clients in the development and protection of IP assets

  • Participate in post-grant proceedings and provide litigation support as needed

  • Draft legal opinions on patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement

  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients on a wide variety of intellectual property issues

Requirements:

  • 2–4 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution

  • Demonstrated focus on electrical/computer fields of technology

  • Experience handling complex patent applications and interacting with USPTO examiners

  • Strong client service and communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented legal environment

Education:

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar

Skills:

  • Excellent legal writing and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and technical aptitude

  • Attention to detail in both legal drafting and technical accuracy

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
