Job Overview: A law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Biopatent Counseling Associate Attorney with over four years of patent counseling and prosecution experience. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline and experience representing biotech companies and investors in various patent-related matters.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to clients in the biotech industry regarding patent portfolio development and life cycle management.
  • Conduct non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and intellectual property (IP) due diligence.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Assist in negotiating and drafting licensing agreements and other technology transfer agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in patent counseling and prosecution.
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Experience representing biotech companies and investors in strategic international patent portfolio development and life cycle management.
  • Prior pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education and Certifications:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Admission to the State Bar of North Carolina.
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
