Job Overview

A distinguished law firm in Chicago is actively seeking a highly experienced Equity Partner to join its Business Reorganization and Creditors’ Rights Practice. The ideal candidate brings significant expertise in representing creditors, secured lenders, and asset purchasers in complex workouts, restructurings, and business reorganizations. This is a hybrid role offering leadership, client development opportunities, and participation in the firm’s long-term strategic planning.

Location

  • Chicago, Illinois

Duties

  • Represent creditors, lenders, and asset purchasers in:

    • Bankruptcy proceedings

    • Workouts and restructurings

    • Business reorganizations

  • Lead and support transactions involving:

    • Asset-based lending

    • Debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing

    • Foreclosures and commercial mortgage defaults

    • Receiverships and forbearance agreements

  • Advise clients on Illinois commercial foreclosure law, UCC Article 9 remedies, and fraudulent transfer matters

  • Provide strategic legal counsel on:

    • Exchange offers, prepackaged/prearranged Chapter 11 cases

    • Debt-for-equity swaps

    • Investor representation and financial sponsor transactions

  • Serve as a trusted business advisor to clients throughout the corporate lifecycle

  • Engage in firm leadership and succession planning activities

Requirements

  • Extensive experience representing lenders and creditors in bankruptcy and restructuring matters

  • Deep knowledge of Illinois foreclosure, receivership, and UCC remedies

  • Proven track record with business reorganizations, litigation, and asset recovery

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain client relationships

  • Portable book of business required

  • Licensed to practice in Illinois or eligible for bar admission through reciprocity or bar exam

  • Willingness to relocate considered for qualified candidates

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Background or degree in business or finance preferred

Certifications

  • Active bar membership in Illinois or eligible to waive in via UBE or comity
