Job Title: Attorney

Job Overview:
A Portland-based law firm with a strong presence across Maine is seeking an experienced and proactive Litigation Attorney to join its expanding team. The ideal candidate will bring courtroom confidence, strategic thinking, and a client-centered mindset. This position offers the opportunity to manage a dynamic caseload, collaborate with a dedicated support team, and grow within a culture that prizes autonomy, professional development, and team success.

Duties:

  • Handle a diverse caseload in family law, civil litigation, and/or criminal defense

  • Advocate for clients in trials, hearings, mediations, and other legal proceedings

  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlements

  • Develop case strategies and negotiate favorable outcomes for clients

  • Maintain timely and transparent communication with clients

  • Coordinate with paralegals, intake professionals, and fellow attorneys

  • Optionally mentor junior lawyers and contribute to internal improvement efforts

  • Participate in business development or community initiatives as desired

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Maine (or currently awaiting bar exam results)

  • 3 years of litigation experience preferred; flexibility based on skill and fit

  • Demonstrated courtroom proficiency and strong oral advocacy

  • Excellent legal research, writing, and client management abilities

  • Ability to manage cases independently while thriving in a team-oriented culture

  • Familiarity with Maine rules of civil procedure, criminal law, and/or family law

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Maine State Bar (required or pending)

Skills:
