Job Overview:
A reputable law firm in Charleston, South Carolina is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Associate Attorney to join its expanding litigation practice. This position is ideal for an early-career attorney seeking to manage their own caseload while working in a collegial and supportive firm environment. The role will begin in July 2025 and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing practice while maintaining a balanced, small-firm culture.

Location:

  • Charleston, South Carolina

Duties:

  • Manage a docket of workers' compensation defense cases from inception to closure

  • Represent clients before the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission

  • Attend and participate in depositions, mediations, and hearings

  • Draft and file legal documents including motions, pleadings, and consent orders

  • Assist partners with litigation strategy, discovery, and defense of claims

Requirements:

  • 0–4 years of experience in workers' compensation defense preferred

  • Licensed to practice law in South Carolina (Required)

  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated approach to case management

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple cases efficiently

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in the state of South Carolina

Skills:

  • Legal research and writing

  • Case analysis and litigation strategy

  • Verbal and written advocacy

  • Knowledge of South Carolina workers' compensation law

  • Courtroom and negotiation skills
