Job Overview:
A respected mid-sized law firm is seeking an experienced Local Government Law Attorney to join its growing office in Virginia Beach. This role offers the opportunity to provide legal counsel to municipalities and public entities on a broad range of governance and regulatory issues. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of Virginia local government law, strong litigation or advisory experience, and a passion for public service in the Hampton Roads region. This position supports the expansion of a well-established local government practice into a new geographic area.

Location:

  • Virginia Beach, Virginia

Duties:

  • Advise local government entities on operational, regulatory, and compliance matters

  • Draft and review legal documents, including ordinances, contracts, resolutions, and policies

  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings, court appearances, and other legal forums

  • Conduct legal research and provide analysis on municipal law, zoning, land use, and related areas

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting local governments

  • Collaborate with attorneys across firm offices to deliver comprehensive legal solutions

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience with a focus on local government law

  • Prior experience advising municipalities or public entities in Virginia

  • Familiarity with issues unique to Virginia Beach/Norfolk and surrounding localities is preferred

  • Strong drafting and client advisory background

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-office team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar (active and in good standing)

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Virginia municipal law and government operations

  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills

  • Strong verbal communication and client advisory abilities
