Job Title: Junior Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Junior Associate with a focused interest in international arbitration. This opportunity is ideal for those aiming to build a long-term practice in global dispute resolution. The position centers on high-stakes commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, offering early responsibility, hands-on client engagement, and regular collaboration with senior attorneys. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong academic background, a proactive interest in international disputes, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to complex cross-border legal matters.

Duties:

  • Support senior attorneys on commercial and investment treaty arbitration matters involving multinational entities and sovereigns

  • Conduct in-depth legal and factual research using a variety of international sources

  • Prepare draft memos, pleadings, legal correspondence, and advocacy materials

  • Assist in compiling and analyzing evidence, including witness statements and expert reports

  • Maintain communication with clients, co-counsel, experts, and arbitral tribunals

  • Help manage case files and procedural timelines across multiple jurisdictions

  • Contribute to internal know-how initiatives and knowledge sharing

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice in Washington, DC, or eligible for Special Legal Consultant (SLC) status

  • Demonstrated interest in international arbitration through prior work experience, research, or training

  • Familiarity with arbitration procedures under leading institutional rules (e.g., ICC, ICSID, LCIA)

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment

  • Prior exposure to public international law or transnational litigation is a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification

Certifications:

  • Active legal license in good standing

  • DC Bar membership or eligibility for admission

Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills with clarity, brevity, and persuasive style

  • Analytical capabilities to assess complex factual and legal scenarios

  • Effective oral advocacy and the ability to present confidently before a tribunal

  • Skilled at managing legal documents, deadlines, and evidence presentation

  • Multilingual proficiency is an asset, particularly in languages used in international commerce

  • Familiarity with legal research tools and cross-border document review systems

  • Ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues across different cultures and jurisdictions
