Job Overview

A law firm seeks a full-time Human Rights Counsel to join its Human Rights Practice group in Washington, D.C. The group represents individuals who have been victims of torture, human trafficking, forced and slave labor, sexual violence, and other violations of international law.

Duties

  • Conduct factual research, including interviewing witnesses and reviewing documents.
  • Assist with discovery tasks, including drafting and responding to discovery requests.
  • Prepare for depositions and trials.
  • Draft motions, briefs, and other pleadings.

Requirements

  • Active member of the DC Bar or willingness to apply within 90 days of employment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good analytic skills to synthesize large amounts of information.
  • Foreign language ability and experience in direct services or human rights work a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the DC Bar.

Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in legal writing and document preparation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
