Job Overview

A law firm seeks a midlevel associate to join the Export Controls and Economic Sanctions team within the International Trade and Regulatory Compliance practice group in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience in U.S. export controls and economic sanctions, including work with the U.S. Departments of State, Treasury, and/or Commerce, as well as familiarity with ITAR, EAR, and OFAC regulations.

Duties

  • Engage in sophisticated legal matters related to export controls and economic sanctions.
  • Maintain direct contact with clients to provide legal guidance.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Travel internationally as required to meet client needs.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in U.S. export controls and economic sanctions.
  • Familiarity with ITAR, EAR, and OFAC regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Persuasive writing abilities.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership and standing in the District of Columbia Bar.

Skills

  • Quantitative capabilities preferred.
  • Background in accounting and/or economics preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel preferred.
