Patent Agent needed for San Francisco office

A law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join the team in San Francisco. The Patent Agent II will play a crucial role in various aspects of patent research, application preparation, prosecution, and portfolio management, leveraging their strong scientific background and legal expertise.

Job Overview:

• Assist in patent research, application drafting, and submission processes.
• Manage patent portfolios with minimal attorney oversight and provide direct client support throughout the patent process.
• Provide substantive support for patent enforcement, licensing, and business transactions.

Duties:

• Draft and prepare patent applications for submission to the USPTO with limited attorney supervision.
• Review and respond to communications from the USPTO and foreign patent offices under moderate attorney review.
• Interact directly with clients, providing guidance and support throughout the patent process.
• Assist in the preparation of patentability, validity, freedom to operate, and infringement opinions.
• Conduct complex patent and literature searches on internet databases.
• Provide substantive support to attorneys in more complex research and analysis tasks.
• Assist in patent litigation matters as needed.
• Provide guidance and training to IP support professionals on procedures and requirements.

Requirements:

• Passed Patent Bar Exam and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Advanced scientific degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline with relevant experience.
• 4-7 years of patent agent experience.
• In-depth understanding of patentability requirements and patent law.
• Familiarity with leading cases affecting patent law and their application.
• Knowledge of patent litigation processes.
• Ability to conduct and evaluate complex patent and literature searches effectively.

Education:

Advanced scientific degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline with relevant experience.

Certifications:

Passed Patent Bar Exam and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
