A law firm in Birmingham, MI, is seeking a dedicated Tax Litigation Attorney with a strong background in tax court litigation, significant experience in civil tax controversy, and a proven track record as a trial lawyer in both federal and state courts. The ideal candidate will excel in refund litigation matters and preferably have experience with key government entities, such as the IRS Chief of Counsel, the US Attorney's Office, and/or the DOJ Tax Division. This role requires the ability to develop business, manage legal files, supervise client interactions, lead cases, and provide exceptional customer/client service.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in tax court litigation, specializing in civil tax controversy matters.
  • Advocate for clients in both federal and state courts, leveraging previous experience as a trial lawyer in the public sector.
  • Concentrate on refund litigation matters to secure favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Develop and maintain a portable book of business with growth potential.
  • Efficiently manage legal files, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Provide supervision and guidance in client interactions, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Lead legal cases from inception to resolution, ensuring client satisfaction throughout the process.
  • Offer exceptional customer/client service to establish and strengthen client relationships.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax court litigation.
  • Comprehensive experience in civil tax controversy matters.
  • Previous experience as a trial lawyer in both federal and state courts.
  • Familiarity with the IRS Chief of Counsel, the US Attorney's Office, and/or the DOJ Tax Division is preferred.
  • Admission to the Michigan Bar is mandatory.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • A strong academic record and relevant coursework in tax law are advantageous.

Certifications:

  • Must be a licensed attorney with admission to the Michigan Bar.
