A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in Miami. The Patent Agent will play a crucial role in assisting patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors, identify patentable inventions, and draft patent applications. Additionally, they will track the patent application process, conduct ability searches, respond to office actions, and consistently meet billable hour requirements. A proactive approach to solving client challenges, effective communication with inventors and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and a commitment to teamwork and professional development are essential for success in this role.

 

Duties:

  • Assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors on newly created products.
  • Identify patentable inventions and draft patent applications.
  • Research current patented technologies to support patentable work.
  • Track the patent application process from initial application to granted patent.
  • Conduct ability searches regularly.
  • Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Meet billable hour requirements consistently.
  • Provide suggestions to day-to-day problems and prioritize tasks.
  • Share information and keep the team informed about progress and challenges.
  • Give positive and constructive feedback to peers and train new employees.
  • Attend required training and embrace planned changes willingly.
  • Work as a member of the team, understanding team goals and fostering teamwork.
  • Demonstrate awareness and alignment with the firm's values and Diversity and Inclusion goals.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Preferably, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • USPTO Registration is required.

 

Experience:

  • 1 year of professional experience.
  • Preferably, 2+ years of experience.
