Job Overview: A law firm in Oakland, CA, is seeking a qualified Patent Attorney with expertise in patent preparation and prosecution. The ideal candidate will possess a background in computer science or electrical engineering, or hold a graduate degree in physics, along with a strong understanding of wireless digital communication, optical device/semiconductor processing, and/or chip design such as microprocessor architecture.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Draft patent opinions and provide strategic intellectual property counseling
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and clients to assess patentable inventions and develop patent strategies
  • Conduct patent searches and prior art analyses

Requirements:

  • Eligible to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Background in computer science or electrical engineering, or a graduate degree in physics
  • At least 2 years of patent attorney or agent experience
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Commitment to patent prosecution

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to a state bar and eligibility for admission to practice before the USPTO
