A law firm seeks a seasoned litigation defense attorney to take on a first-chair role overseeing a diverse caseload of insurance defense matters. This position requires significant experience leading cases from inception to trial, focusing on complex issues such as coverage disputes, fraud investigations, bad faith claims, mass-casualty litigation, and large exposure losses. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a talent for mentoring junior associates in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Duties:

  • Lead defense efforts in complex insurance cases, including coverage litigation, fraud investigations, and bad-faith claims.
  • Serve as first chair in both state and federal court trials.
  • Oversee all phases of litigation, including case strategy, discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
  • Provide legal guidance on high-exposure cases involving mass-casualty incidents and large losses.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, motions, and discovery responses.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and expert witnesses to develop comprehensive defense strategies.
  • Mentor and guide junior associates, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality legal work.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations, depositions, and cross-examinations.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a first-chair attorney in litigation, particularly in insurance defense matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex litigation through trial and appeal.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Experience mentoring and managing junior attorneys.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive client relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Louisiana, in good standing.

Skills:

  • Exceptional litigation skills, including trial preparation and courtroom performance.
  • Advanced research and writing abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex cases with attention to detail and strategic insight.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
