Job Title:
Energy Partner/Of Counsel

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Partner or Counsel to join its Energy practice group in the Washington, D.C. office. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a strong background in energy regulation and transactional work. The ideal candidate will bring a portable book of business and expertise in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations, Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), and energy-related transactions. Experience with organizations like MISO, PJM, and SPP is preferred, though lobbying experience will also be considered.

Duties:

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to clients in the energy sector, with a focus on regulatory and transactional matters.
  • Advise on FERC regulations and compliance matters.
  • Assist clients with transactions involving Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and Independent System Operators (ISOs).
  • Represent clients in energy-related litigation and regulatory proceedings.
  • Manage and grow a portable book of business.
  • Collaborate with other practice groups to provide comprehensive legal solutions.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in energy regulations and policies at the federal and regional levels.
  • Engage in business development activities to expand the firm's Energy practice.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a partner or counsel in a law firm, particularly within the energy sector.
  • A portable book of business is required.
  • Expertise in FERC regulatory matters and energy-related transactions.
  • Familiarity with RTOs, ISOs, and regional energy markets such as MISO, PJM, and SPP.
  • Strong business development and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C., or eligible for admission.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of energy law, regulations, and policy.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to think critically and offer practical legal solutions.
  • Strong client management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage complex legal matters and large-scale transactions.
