A law firm in Kansas City, MO is seeking an Associate Attorney responsible for reviewing cases, negotiating with defendants and attorneys, drafting motions, handling court appearances, and communicating with clients. The candidate must be licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and Kansas, with additional licensing in other states welcomed.

 

Duties:

  • Review cases and prepare relevant orders for each call.
  • Negotiate with defendants and attorneys to settle contested cases via court, phone, email, and regular mail.
  • Draft and file motions and responses to motions from defendants.
  • Handle court appearances within reasonable travel distance.
  • Review court calls and request coverage where necessary, including attachment of necessary documents and orders.
  • Draft, review, and file motions during litigation.
  • Prepare for trials/arbitrations, potentially involving overnight stays in distant counties.
  • Communicate with clients, employers, and attorneys to resolve accounts/suits.

 

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and Kansas.
  • Additional licensing in other states (IA, NE, ID, CA, WA, OR, AK, HI, NV) is welcomed.
  • Comfortable appearing in court and consistently punctual.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in the State of Missouri and Kansas.

 

Skills:

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle court appearances and litigation independently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in legal research and writing.
