IP&T Patent Agent

A law firm in Kansas City is currently seeking an IP&T Patent Agent to join their dynamic Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) practice. The successful candidate with 5+ years of experience will work alongside talented partners, counsels, associates, and patent agents to help clients protect their crucial inventions in cutting-edge technology. The IP&T Patent Agent will play a key role in meeting with clients, evaluating technology, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, providing litigation support, and offering technical expertise. The position requires a strong educational background in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, or a closely related field. The candidate must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office and have previous law firm or in-house experience.

Job Details:

• Work side-by-side with partners, counsels, associates, and patent agents
• Meet with clients to discuss invention disclosures, patent strategy, and ongoing prosecution matters
• Evaluate technology and provide technical support for the practice
• Prepare and prosecute US and foreign patent applications
• Assist with opinion writing and client counseling
• Offer litigation support for IP matters
• Provide technical expertise in the computing and/or electrical arts

Experience:

5+ years of experience independently preparing and prosecuting patent applications in computing and/or electrical arts

Requirements:

• Strong educational background in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, or a closely related field
• Must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
• Previous law firm or in-house experience is required
• Bachelor’s degree (and preferably an advanced degree) in the relevant field
