Job Overview:
A top-tier law firm is seeking a USPTO-registered Patent Agent to join its Electronics & Software team on a full-time basis. This role is ideal for professionals with strong experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications involving advanced software and computing technologies. The successful candidate will contribute to portfolio strategy, client counseling, and prosecution of patents related to a broad range of digital innovations.

Location:

  • Menlo Park, CA.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to software and computer-based technologies

  • Collaborate with attorneys and technical professionals to advise clients on IP portfolio development and strategy

  • Conduct patentability, prior art, and freedom-to-operate searches

  • Support due diligence and patent analysis projects

  • Review invention disclosures and communicate with inventors and clients

  • Submit relevant documentation, including transcripts and writing samples, as requested

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience

  • Strong technical foundation in software or computing technologies

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities

  • Experience in client counseling and strategic patent portfolio management is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following disciplines (or a related field):

    • Computer Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Mathematics

    • Physics

Certifications:

  • Active registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO Reg. No. required)

Skills:

  • Proficiency in technologies including:
