Chemistry Patent Prosecution Patent Associate Attorney

A law firm in Boston is seeking a talented Chemistry Patent Prosecution Patent Associate Attorney to join their Intellectual Property Group. The ideal candidate should be a Patent-Barred Associate with a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and a strong commitment to pursuing a career in intellectual property law. Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications, particularly in the areas of small molecule therapeutics and immunotherapies.
• Engage in direct client contact and collaboration within the life sciences and pharma practice.
• Receive hands-on mentoring and training on both individual and group levels.
• Ensure compliance with statutory criteria for patentability and USPTO rules of procedure.
• Contribute to the growth of the intellectual property practice within the firm.

Requirements:

• Patent Bar admission is mandatory.
• Ph.D. in organic chemistry.
• Commitment to a career in intellectual property law.
• Strong academic record and excellent communication skills.
• 1-3 years of institutional or law firm employment experience.
• Proficiency in drafting patent applications.
• Proficiency in ChemDraw.
• Basic understanding of statutory criteria for patentability and USPTO rules of procedure.

This old Boston firm has remained a mid-sized regional player while other firms have elected to grow more dramatically in size. Approximately 1:1 partner-to-associate ratio keeps most of the lawyers here fairly busy in all of their full service practice areas, with a special emphasis on business litigation, soft IP, employment and real estate. This firm has changed its focus dramatically in the past several years and has elected to concentrate on more profitable business litigation. But the firm has a much more casual atmosphere than larger firms who do the same work.
