Job Overview

A reputable law firm specializing in immigration law is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join their legal team. This position offers the flexibility of remote work with occasional travel to New York. The attorney will work closely with 8-10 paralegals and legal assistants under the supervision of the Managing Attorney.

Location

Duties

  • Case Review & Consultation: Thoroughly review immigration cases, including VAWA, Ts, Us, and family-based cases.

  • Research & Writing: Conduct legal research, prepare legal memorandums, and respond to Requests for Evidence (RFEs) to support client cases.

  • Client Representation: Prepare clients for hearings or interviews in various immigration matters, including affirmative asylums, adjustment of status interviews, and master calendar hearings. Represent clients at these appointments across the U.S.

  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Apply critical thinking to resolve complex legal challenges and provide creative solutions for clients' immigration needs.

  • Proactive Legal Support: Stay ahead of immigration policy changes and identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance client service.

  • Client-Centered Approach: Engage with clients empathetically, addressing their concerns and communicating legal matters clearly and effectively.

  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Collaborate with the legal team, providing support and mentorship to junior members, while contributing to a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission in good standing to any state bar.

  • 9-11 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years focused on immigration law.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration laws, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to travel for client cases across the U.S.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with both clients and team members.

  • Strong critical thinking skills, with attention to detail and organizational abilities to manage caseloads and meet deadlines.

  • A commitment to core values of integrity, empathy, and ethical conduct.

  • Maturity and open-mindedness; a collaborative team player who listens and learns from others.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active admission to the bar in any state in good standing.

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of immigration law and associated legal processes.

  • Strong research and writing skills, particularly in legal documentation and memoranda.

  • Ability to handle client-facing responsibilities and represent clients confidently in legal settings.

  • Proficiency in using legal research tools and case management software.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines efficiently.
