Landlord-Tenant Associate

Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Landlord-Tenant Associate to join its team in the New York office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on residential and commercial landlord-tenant matters, including appearances in New York City Housing Courts and New York State Supreme Courts. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a collaborative real estate group.

Location:

• New York City, NY

Duties:

• Handle appearances on non-payment and holdover cases at all stages
• Represent landlords before city and state housing agencies and municipal courts for building and code violations
• Draft motions, orders to show cause, and briefs in support of real estate litigation matters
• Provide legal counsel to landlords on various landlord-tenant issues
• Manage residential and commercial real estate cases from inception to resolution
• Collaborate with the real estate group on complex matters

Requirements:

• 2-5 years of experience in landlord-tenant law, particularly representing landlords in housing courts and New York State Supreme Courts
• Experience with affordable housing, Mitchell-Lama cooperatives, and HDFC a plus
• Strong ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of New York City Housing Court procedures and real estate regulations
• Exceptional legal research, writing, and communication skills
• Ability to appear in court and advocate on behalf of clients effectively

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing

• Strong legal research and analytical skills

• Proven ability to manage complex landlord-tenant matters
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
• Proficiency in drafting legal documents, including motions, briefs, and orders to show cause
