Job Title: Of Counsel Family Law Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm in Fairfax, VA, is seeking a highly experienced Family Law Attorney to serve in an Of Counsel capacity. This full-time hybrid role offers the opportunity to independently manage family law cases while mentoring junior attorneys and paralegals. Ideal candidates will bring deep litigation expertise, a proactive mindset, and a client-focused approach. A Virginia law license is required, with admission in DC and/or Maryland considered advantageous.

Duties:

  • Manage an independent caseload of family law matters, including custody, divorce, and child support

  • Serve as lead trial counsel in contested matters, with full litigation responsibility from start to finish

  • Conduct client consultations and develop legal strategies tailored to client needs

  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and related court documents

  • Represent clients in court proceedings across Northern Virginia jurisdictions

  • Provide guidance and oversight to junior attorneys and support staff

  • Monitor deadlines and ensure compliance with all procedural requirements

  • Utilize legal technology to maintain case files and track progress in a hybrid work environment

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on family law litigation experience

  • Active Virginia Bar license (mandatory)

  • DC and/or Maryland Bar license (preferred)

  • Demonstrated first-chair trial experience

  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior legal professionals

  • Familiarity with court procedures and expectations in Northern Virginia

  • Strong time management and task prioritization capabilities

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar (required)

  • Admission to the DC and/or Maryland Bar (preferred)

Skills:

  • Advanced litigation and advocacy skills

  • Superior drafting, analytical, and research abilities

  • Professional verbal and written communication

  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively

  • Technologically adept, especially in virtual/hybrid legal environments

  • Sound judgment, discretion, and client service orientation
