The ideal candidate will provide strategic guidance on U.S. federal and state privacy regulations, international data transfer issues, and enterprise privacy frameworks. The role emphasizes proactive compliance counseling and includes engagement with regulatory inquiries, digital innovation risk, and privacy-forward deal support.

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice on a wide range of U.S. and global privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA, TCPA, FTC Act, GDPR)

  • Design and implement organizational privacy compliance programs and risk management protocols

  • Guide multinational data transfers, localization laws, and cross-border data flows

  • Advise on privacy risks and compliance requirements tied to AI, digital advertising, and emerging technologies

  • Draft and review data protection clauses in commercial and vendor agreements

  • Counsel on privacy policies, consent management frameworks, and consumer data rights

  • Conduct privacy risk assessments in corporate transactions and M&A due diligence

  • Assist clients with response strategies to regulatory investigations and consumer complaints

  • Support implementation of readiness efforts for new U.S. state privacy laws and harmonized global privacy approaches

  • Collaborate with forensic teams on data breach investigations and regulatory disclosures

  • Facilitate privacy-related tabletop exercises and review internal incident response frameworks

  • Provide strategic insight on data governance, privacy, security policies, and enterprise-level risk

Requirements:

  • 3–7 years of relevant experience in data privacy, ideally in a law firm environment

  • Robust understanding of U.S. privacy legislation and hands-on familiarity with global frameworks like the GDPR

  • Strong analytical, drafting, and verbal advocacy skills

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage client matters and coordinate with internal and external teams

  • Prior exposure to cybersecurity or incident response is a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Certifications:

  • Certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPM, or CIPT are preferred

Skills:

  • Client-facing presence with the ability to distill legal risk into practical advice

  • Drafting experience with data processing agreements and privacy-related documentation

  • Organizational awareness of how privacy integrates with business operations and IT infrastructure
