Associate Attorney - Workers' Compensation Defense

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an associate attorney with a minimum of 1 year of experience in defending workers' compensation and/or insurance defense to join their Overland Park, KS office. The candidate must be currently licensed in Kansas.

Duties

• Gather and review medical evidence and records.
• Take depositions of claimants, physicians, and other parties.
• Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Litigate cases before a workers' compensation judge or referee.
• Represent employer or insurer interests at various proceedings.
• Communicate with claims representatives and monitor loss run reports.
• Assist in accident investigations and manage compensation costs.
• Compile and submit required management reports.
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews and negotiate settlements.

Requirements

• J.D. and licensed in Kansas.
• Experience in workers' compensation defense; general litigation is a plus.
• Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and terminology.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Experience with Microsoft Word; Time Matters preferred.
• Maintain firm and client confidentiality.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.)

Certifications

• Licensed to practice law in Kansas
