The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, or a comparable degree. They should possess 2+ years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical inventions or have experience in biotech commercialization, such as university tech transfer or industry commercialization/regulatory compliance. The candidate must be capable of applying scientific expertise alongside commercial and legal considerations to understand clients’ big picture in a commercial sense. They should be adept at oral presentation and explanation of work product, comfortable working independently, and able to effectively support supervising attorneys in multiple offices remotely. Previous law firm or industry experience and current admission to the USPTO are required.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical inventions.
  • Apply scientific expertise and commercial and legal considerations to understand clients’ commercialization goals.
  • Present and explain work product orally to clients and colleagues.
  • Work independently to manage patent prosecution tasks efficiently.
  • Provide remote support to supervising attorneys across multiple offices.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, or comparable degree.
  • 2+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications for life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical inventions; or experience in biotech commercialization, such as university tech transfer or industry commercialization/regulatory compliance.
