A law firm in Melbourne is seeking an Environment and Planning Associate Attorney to handle a variety of litigious and non-litigious matters in environment and planning law across the public and private sectors. The candidate will engage in transactional work, provide advice, and handle litigation in areas including major project approvals, environmental licensing and compliance, tribunal court proceedings, contaminated land and waste management, water law, carbon and climate change, and incident response. Knowledge of climate change and carbon legislation is desirable. Strong time management, organizational skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role.

 

Duties:

  • Handle a mix of transactional, advisory, and litigation work in environment and planning law.
  • Work on major project approvals, environmental licensing, and compliance matters.
  • Represent clients in Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Court proceedings.
  • Provide advice on contaminated land and waste management issues.
  • Assist with water law, carbon, and climate change matters.
  • Manage risk and incident response related to environmental issues.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar in Australia in good standing.
  • 3+ years of post-qualification experience ideally gained within a reputable Environment and Planning practice.
  • Strong academic achievements.
  • Experience and expertise in planning litigation, advice, and project management.
  • Knowledge of climate change and carbon legislation is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong drafting abilities.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and conflicting priorities simultaneously.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the Bar in Australia.
