Job Overview:
A prominent law firm with offices across California is seeking a mid-level Associate Attorney to join its Environment & Land Use practice. This position offers a collaborative hybrid work environment, meaningful early responsibility, and the chance to work on complex matters across sectors including renewable energy, transit, utilities, housing, commercial development, and public infrastructure. The role supports both public and private clients and provides exposure to interdisciplinary legal work with several related practice groups.

Location:

  • New York City, NY

Duties:

  • Conduct land use and environmental due diligence

  • Advise clients on land use entitlements and resource permitting processes

  • Provide counseling on CEQA and NEPA compliance and strategy

  • Represent clients in litigation defending zoning and environmental approvals in state and federal courts

  • Work collaboratively with attorneys in Real Estate, Infrastructure, Eminent Domain, and Government Relations groups on large-scale projects

Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of legal experience in environment and land use law

  • Familiarity with CEQA, NEPA, and California permitting processes

  • Experience in administrative or judicial litigation related to zoning/environmental matters is preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in environmental law and public infrastructure projects

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California (required)

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Effective communication and client service orientation

  • Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple matters concurrently

  • Team-oriented approach and willingness to collaborate across practice areas
