A law firm in Overland Park is seeking an Attorney with at least 1+ years of experience defending Workers' Compensation cases. The ideal candidate must have a J.D., be licensed in MO and KS or have reciprocity, and possess a proven track record of progressive experience in workers’ compensation defense work. The role involves gathering and reviewing medical evidence, taking depositions, conducting discovery, and managing cases before workers' compensation judges or referees. Duties:

  • Gather and review medical evidence and records.
  • Take depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
  • Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
  • Litigate cases before workers' compensation judges or referees.
  • Represent the interests of the employer or insurer in various legal proceedings.
  • Communicate with claims representatives and monitor loss run reports.
  • Assist with accident investigations and problem areas.
  • Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
  • Compile and submit required reports to company management.
  • Coordinate and attend claims reviews and negotiate settlements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • A J.D. and license in MO and KS or reciprocity is a must.
  • Proven track record of progressive experience in workers’ compensation defense work.
  • Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
  • Microsoft Word experience is required; Time Matters legal software experience is preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, research, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent telephone and writing skills.
