Job Overview:
A respected defense-oriented law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its Medical Malpractice and Litigation Practice Group in Detroit, Michigan. This role is ideal for a motivated litigator interested in handling complex medical defense cases. The position provides valuable courtroom exposure, active involvement in case strategy, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced litigators in a collaborative environment.

Location:

  • Detroit, Michigan

Duties:

  • Draft legal documents including motions, pleadings, and discovery responses

  • Conduct legal research and provide case strategy recommendations

  • Assist in the discovery process, including written discovery and depositions

  • Summarize and analyze depositions, medical records, and expert testimony

  • Represent clients in court appearances, motion hearings, and mediations

  • Negotiate settlements and communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel

  • Maintain organized case files and meet multiple litigation deadlines

  • Collaborate with internal teams on defense strategy and case management

Requirements:

  • JD degree from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan or awaiting results from the Michigan Bar Exam

  • Prior experience in litigation, preferably in medical malpractice or healthcare defense

  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload and meet competing deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail, discretion, and client service orientation

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active member of the Michigan State Bar, or bar exam recently completed

Skills:

  • Excellent persuasive writing and verbal communication skills

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills

  • Effective communicator with ability to present complex information clearly

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Strategic thinker with organizational and time management strengths

  • High ethical standards and ability to manage confidential information

  • Familiarity with billing software is preferred
