Job Overview:
A well-established defense-oriented law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its Senior Living and Litigation Practice Group in Detroit, Michigan. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong foundation in litigation and a focus on delivering high-quality legal representation in matters involving healthcare facilities, senior living providers, and related liability issues. The role offers the opportunity to handle complex cases, engage with clients, and contribute to a collaborative legal team.

Location:

  • Detroit, Michigan

Duties:

  • Draft and file legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and discovery requests

  • Participate in all stages of the discovery process, including depositions and document review

  • Perform legal research and prepare memoranda and case analyses

  • Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, and depositions

  • Negotiate settlements and communicate effectively with opposing counsel

  • Summarize and evaluate depositions, expert reports, and case materials

  • Work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with the litigation team

  • Assist in client counseling, strategy development, and risk assessment

Requirements:

  • JD degree from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan or awaiting bar results if taken within the last six months

  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in litigation and healthcare-related matters

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, multitask, and prioritize in a fast-paced legal setting

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, or bar exam recently completed

Skills:

  • Exceptional persuasive writing and analytical abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse stakeholders

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity

  • Legal research proficiency and familiarity with litigation procedures

  • Strategic thinking and attention to detail

  • Experience with billing software preferred

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
