Job Overview

A prominent law firm is currently seeking a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with a strong foundation in Chemistry. This role is ideal for an individual with 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience, particularly in pharmaceutical technologies. The position offers the opportunity to engage with advanced IP matters within a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.

Duties

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. patent applications with a focus on chemical and pharmaceutical innovations

  • Draft responses to USPTO Office Actions and maintain ongoing client communications

  • Advise clients on IP strategy, including patent portfolio development and management

  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, patentability, and clearance analyses

  • Assist in preparing legal opinions, including non-infringement and invalidity opinions

  • Provide scientific and technical support in IP litigation matters when required

  • Contribute to due diligence efforts in connection with IP transactions

Requirements

  • 1–4 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably within the pharmaceutical or chemical sectors

  • Experience interacting with the USPTO and managing domestic prosecution matters

  • Ability to manage complex matters with attention to detail and professionalism

  • Eligible to work in the United States

Education

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in one of the following areas:

    • Chemistry

    • Organic Chemistry

    • Medicinal Chemistry

    • Biochemistry

    • Chemical Engineering

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or qualified to sit for the patent bar

Skills

  • Strong patent drafting, prosecution, and strategic advisory skills

  • Familiarity with clearance studies and IP due diligence processes

  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts in written and verbal formats

  • Knowledge of litigation support processes related to intellectual property

  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
