Job Title: Senior Family Law Attorney

Job Overview:

A well-established law firm based in Alexandria, VA, is currently seeking a seasoned Family Law Attorney with 6-10 years of experience to support its growing litigation practice. The role offers the opportunity to take on substantive casework, guide clients through emotionally complex legal issues, and potentially step into a leadership or management path within the firm’s dynamic family law team.

Duties:

  • Handle a diverse caseload of family law matters across all phases, including litigation and negotiation

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on multifaceted or high-stakes cases as co-counsel

  • Maintain frequent, clear communication with clients, including routine updates and case strategy discussions

  • Draft, file, and argue motions in state courts

  • Offer feedback to partners and practice leads on workflow improvements and procedural efficiencies

  • Attend court hearings, depositions, mediations, and settlement conferences

  • Assist with mentoring or guiding junior associates or legal staff, as needed

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia (required)

  • Member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar

  • Licensure in Maryland or the District of Columbia is advantageous

  • Minimum of 6-10 years of hands-on experience in family law litigation

  • Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently while meeting deadlines

  • Experience with case management tools or legal practice software

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Virginia State Bar admission

  • Optional: Bar admission in Maryland and/or Washington, D.C.
