Job Overview

A long-established law firm in Virginia is seeking a dedicated Associate Attorney to join its Virginia Beach office. The attorney will focus on consumer bankruptcy law, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with clients, guide them through financial difficulties, and contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven legal practice.

Location

  • Must be able to commute or relocate prior to start date

Duties

  • Represent clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases

  • Conduct client consultations and manage intake processes

  • Draft and file bankruptcy petitions, motions, pleadings, and other court documents

  • Attend 341 meetings and other hearings (primarily telephonic or virtual)

  • Maintain consistent communication with clients, trustees, and court personnel

  • Manage case files and ensure compliance with all deadlines

  • Use bankruptcy-specific software and legal research tools to support filings

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in bankruptcy law or a closely related field preferred

  • Willingness to relocate or commute to the Virginia Beach office

  • Strong client service and interpersonal skills, including empathy and professionalism

  • Familiarity with bankruptcy court procedures and timelines

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Virginia

  • Admission to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia

Skills

  • Proficient legal drafting and written communication

  • Strong legal research abilities (e.g., Westlaw)

  • Familiarity with BestCase Bankruptcy Software or similar platforms

  • Ability to manage multiple client matters simultaneously

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
