Job Overview:
A reputable law firm specializing in intellectual property is seeking an experienced USPTO-registered Patent Agent with a strong background in Organic Chemistry. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with a high-performing Chemistry & Life Sciences team, supporting patent prosecution efforts for pharmaceutical and chemical innovations. The ideal candidate will contribute technical expertise, particularly in small molecule and organic chemistry matters, within a dynamic legal environment.

Location:

  • Seattle, WA

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO

  • Work with inventors and clients to assess patentability and strategy

  • Conduct prior art searches and freedom-to-operate analyses

  • Draft responses to Office Actions

  • Assist attorneys with legal analysis and client communications

  • Review and interpret scientific and technical disclosures

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience

  • Experience in a law firm environment strongly preferred

  • Strong writing and communication skills

  • Availability to work full-time and on-site at one of the listed office locations

  • Writing samples and academic transcripts will be requested

Education:

  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Organic Chemistry or related field preferred

  • Equivalent experience may be considered

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration required

Skills:

  • Technical expertise in organic chemistry and small molecule pharmaceutical patents

  • Proficient in patent drafting and technical writing

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
