Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly experienced Insurance Coverage Attorney to join its litigation and advisory practice in Metairie, Louisiana. The ideal candidate will have 11 years of experience providing comprehensive legal counsel on complex insurance coverage issues, including policy interpretation, claims analysis, and litigation defense. This senior role is suited for an attorney who can work independently, manage high-stakes matters, and support clients across various lines of insurance.

Duties

  • Advise clients on insurance coverage matters across various policy types, including CGL, D&O, E&O, property, and excess policies.
  • Analyze and interpret insurance policies, exclusions, and endorsements.
  • Draft coverage opinions and reservation of rights and denial letters.
  • Represent insurers in coverage litigation, including declaratory judgment actions and bad faith claims.
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Stay current with changes in insurance law and regulatory developments.
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior attorneys and legal staff.

Requirements

  • 11 years of insurance coverage experience, including both advisory and litigation components.
  • Extensive knowledge of Louisiana insurance law and litigation procedures.
  • Strong track record handling complex, high-value insurance coverage matters.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a substantial caseload.
  • Licensed to practice law in Louisiana.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active member of the Louisiana State Bar.
  • Admission to U.S. District Courts in Louisiana (preferred).

Skills

  • Advanced understanding of insurance coverage law and policy interpretation.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication with clients, insurers, and co-counsel.
  • Proficient in litigation management tools and legal research platforms.
