A law firm seeks a diligent attorney to join its Newport News, VA, office. The successful candidate will support both real property transactions and landlord-tenant disputes, collaborating with a growing team that represents investors, developers, and property managers across residential and commercial matters. The role offers a hybrid of transactional and courtroom work, along with opportunities to explore additional practice areas.

Duties

  • Conduct and oversee residential and commercial property closings, ensuring all documents are accurately drafted and executed

  • Advocate on behalf of landlords in eviction, lease enforcement, and debt collection proceedings

  • Coordinate with title companies, lenders, and real estate agents to facilitate smooth transaction workflows

  • Prepare pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and briefs for litigation matters related to landlord-tenant law

  • Represent clients at hearings, mediations, and bench trials in Virginia courts

  • Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, leases, and property management agreements

  • Optionally support other practice groups (e.g., estate planning, corporate structuring, contract drafting, traffic offenses, and family law) based on interest and prior experience

Requirements

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia (required)

  • Excellent verbal advocacy and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational abilities and effective time management

  • The capacity to work autonomously on file management and case strategy

  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to partner with senior attorneys on complex matters

  • Enthusiasm for professional development within a dynamic, expanding practice

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar (required)
