A law firm in Brisbane is seeking an Environment and Planning Associate Attorney with 3-4 years PQE gained within a reputable Environment & Planning practice. The candidate will engage in a mix of litigation, advice, and transactional work focused on planning and environmental law issues. This includes planning approvals and appeals, major project approvals, contaminated land and waste management, renewable energy projects, incident response & investigations, and environmental prosecutions and enforcement.

 

Duties:

  • Handle a variety of environmental and planning law matters, including planning approvals, major project approvals, and contaminated land management.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on environmental law issues across different sectors, including oil & gas, mining, and renewable energy.
  • Conduct proceedings relating to environmental or planning matters in courts such as the Planning and Environment Court, Magistrates Court, and District Court.
  • Manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities simultaneously with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and planning agreements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct due diligence and provide advice on environmental issues in land acquisition and transactional matters.

 

Requirements:

  • 3-4 years PQE in a reputable Environment & Planning practice.
  • Previous experience with environmental approvals and prosecutions.
  • Good understanding of environmental law issues across various sectors.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including drafting abilities.
  • Strong academic achievements.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB or JD) from a recognized institution.
  • Admission to the Bar in Queensland, Australia.

 

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of environmental and planning law.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
