A law firm seeks a motivated Civil Defense Litigation Associate Attorney with 3-12 years of litigation experience to join its growing practice in Seattle. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a talented attorney to specialize in insurance coverage matters while gaining a high level of autonomy and responsibility. The firm provides strong mentorship and training, ensuring that junior attorneys can grow quickly in their legal careers and manage their caseloads. Admission to practice in Washington is required, with preference given to candidates also admitted in Oregon.

Duties:

  • Review, analyze, and draft pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and subpoenas.
  • Conduct depositions and witness interviews as part of case preparation.
  • Perform detailed legal research to support case strategies and decision-making.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate records of time spent on cases.
  • Take full ownership of caseloads, managing matters from case initiation through to resolution.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to refine case strategies and develop effective litigation approaches.
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and courts to ensure timely and efficient case progress.

Requirements:

  • 3-12 years of civil litigation experience, preferably in defense work.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance coverage law and litigation procedures.
  • Ability to handle complex legal research, drafting, and litigation responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload with limited supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive attitude with a desire to take on significant responsibility early in one’s career.
  • Admission to practice law in Washington is required; admission to practice in Oregon is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Washington State Bar is required.
  • Oregon State Bar admission is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of civil defense litigation, particularly in insurance coverage matters.
  • Strong legal writing, research, and drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in depositions, court appearances, and case management.
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize competing demands.
  • Ability to maintain client relationships and manage client expectations.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently as needed.
  • Proficient in legal case management software and Microsoft Office suite.
